Whale Watching
Whale watching is a favorite activity of local residents and visitors.
Lighthouse Marine Park has become known as one of the best places to view Orca whales from land. In summer months, members of the three local pods frequently pass close by these shores, offering a thrilling glimpse of the lives of these endangered animals. Watch for Orcas coming to the surface to breathe while swimming or feeding, and you may also be treated to a spectacle of jumps and tail slaps!
Viewing Orcas from land protects them from the potential disturbances of boat-based viewing. Find interpretive exhibits about Orcas in the Orca Center located on the boardwalk. Lifeforce Foundation, a marine mammal research organization, has furnished it with information and photos.
Info sheets with pictures of whale "gestures" and facts can be purchased for a suggested donation at the Shell Station - donations support the Lifeforce Foundation

WhaleTail98281 Alerts from Twitter
We would like to set up a twitter network notifying followers when the whales are coming in. This is happening to some degree by cell phone and via a $100 subscription to a whale watching network...but PRPR suspects we can get this going.
